Legal weed... gotta love that slogan. Thanks to LION Dandelion Tea, I was able to try out my first ever teatox. And I'm not gonna lie, I was a little skeptical at first. PLUS, with my hyperhidrosis (a condition meaning that I have hyper active glands), I wasn't sure if I'd even be able to do this teatox because I'm not able to drink caffeine (trust me...me on caffeine is NOT pretty). The great news is that LION Dandelion Tea is CAFFEINE FREE. This may not be the greatest of news to ALL of you, I recognize that, but what still IS great for you is that this tea is a cleanse and you can still get caffeine from other drinks ;)
Before I dive deeper into the reasons why I did a teatox and how it made me feel, I want to share some really cool facts about this tea and the power behind the dandelions:
Did you know that dandelions have health benefits? Well, neither did I, to be honest. The flower is an antioxidant and "fights free radicals in the system. The leaf has detoxifying and anti-bloating properties and is known to cleanse the liver, kidneys and skin. The root if filled (with) prebiotics (a fiber that hangs out in your gut and feeds your probiotics) which supports a healthy gut and digestive system".
Well, now you may be wondering... what the heck is a prebiotic? I also did not know the answer to this question until recently! A prebiotic is "an inulin fiber that hangs out in your gut and feeds your good gut bacteria (probiotics) to promote a healthy digestive system." These teas are all organic, there are no processed sugars, and it's gluten free! (they're also vegan, aside from the Lemon Honey tea, which has a teaspoon of organic honey).
So...at the end of the day... what exactly can these teas do for you?
Biggest takeaways: they help cleanse your gut, they help with bloating, and they help regulate digestion and metabolism.
As if all of those reasons weren't reasons enough to do this teatox, here are my personal 5 reasons why I decided to do this and how it made me feel:
1) No changes to my diet/meal prepping
That's right. I didn't have to change a thing! Since cooking and meal prepping is already a recurring stress for me, it was SUPER comforting to know that I didn't have to alter my diet or skip a meal. The truth is: these teas are NOT meal replacements - they are meal complementors! The teatox consisted of drinking 2 teas a day (one in the morning and one in the evening) for 12 days. Twelve days isn't even a big commitment... anyone can do it... no excuses ;)
2) Feeling hydrated all day
Prior to this teatox, I had promised myself to drink more water. I was doing a great job of sticking to it, but I wanted more beverage variety! I wasn't ever a big soda drinker, I can't have coffee (as I shared earlier), and sometimes seltzers make me feel bloated. So I thought to myself, what other drinks could I try? LION Tea came to me at the perfect time because it not only gave me the variety I was craving, but also made me feel more hydrated all day. Drinking the teas also made me commit to drinking more water throughout the day so it was a win win :)
3) Cleansing my gut and digestion
Piggy backing on my previous point, I also wanted to make sure that both my food and beverage choices would improve my digestion. The only gut cleansing beverages I had in the past were kombucha's and I can be a bit picky with the brands, to be honest. Some taste like a diet drink and I wasn't a fan. During my teatox with LION Dandelion Tea I actually felt healthier. For those of you who followed my Instagram story, you probably saw a few posts where I shared that I was starting to feel a cold come on. We all know that feeling... that horribly annoying itch in the back of your throat mixed with a headache. Yeah, it's the worst. Well, by day 5-6, that feeling went away! It was amazing! To have been able, first hand, to see physical changes in my body was something that I hadn't even expected (but, of course, was pleasantly surprised by)!
4) Experiencing something new
To all of my fellow adventurous souls out there -- you can most likely relate to this statement: trying new things is both exciting and necessary in life! Truly, my thrill in life is experiencing something new every day. Whether that be checking out a new restaurant in Brooklyn, booking a trip somewhere spontaneously, meeting a new friend, trying a new food, sparking a new conversation with someone... literally, ANYTHING. So, trying a teatox, in my opinion, fell under the "experience something new" category and it was so worth it!
5) Learn more about the body
Since starting my fitness journey in January of this year, I've become more and more intrigued with the body. I've learned how to take care of it, how to nurture it, how to fuel it, and how to work it... among other things! It's embarrassing to admit that I didn't know how to take care of my body before this year *insert shrug emoji* Taking on this teatox challenge in addition to taking on my various fitness challenges has given me a new perspective on literally everything! Having learned more about pre AND probiotics was also very eye opening and I'm truly so grateful that this experience gave me so much!
There are so many different reasons why people choose vs. not choose to do a teatox, but these 5 reasons were enough for me. At the end of the 12 day teatox journey I cured my sick vibes, I learned more about the healing powers of dandelions, I discovered the benefits of prebiotics, and I felt refreshed on day 12!
What are your reasons for choosing to do a teatox?
