The Power of Shifting Your Mindset

How many times a day do you beat yourself up with thoughts like, "I can't do this" or "I'm not strong enough to..." or "I've tried everything and nothing is working"?
Going through a weight loss journey is just as much mental as it is physical. Self doubt can make the journey more challenging. The more self doubt limiting beliefs we think and carry with us throughout the day, the more time we're wasting on thoughts that could empower us.
Keep these word tracks in mind before/during/after your next workout:
1. "I can't do burpees"
INSTEAD TRY: "I can do 1 burpee" OR "I can modify 1 burpee". By shifting your mindset from "can't" to "can", you're already giving yourself a more positive start to the move. Some negative self-talk can become self-fulfilling prophesy. Be careful not to beat yourself up before you've even tried something! You CAN do anything you set your mind to!
2. "I'm not a strong enough to lift 10 pound weights"
INSTEAD TRY: "I can lift 5 pound weights". Weight loss is a JOURNEY. Sure, the term "journey" has become more cliché and maybe over used, but for those who are already on the journey, there is no better word to describe the transformation. Shift your mindset from thinking that you "should" be using heavier weights, to trusting that as you start off with lower weights you'll eventually be able to use heavier weights. For example: in January when I started my 80 Day TBT (Total Body Transformation) bootcamp, I was using 5 pound weights. Today in my 32 Day Lift Extreme bootcamp, I'm able to use 15 pound weights for most of the exercises. This strength came in due time! I thought I was NEVER going to be able to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds. LOOK AT ME NOW. So, don't worry. You're next ;)
3. "I'll don't like eating healthy"
INSTEAD TRY: "I'm not eating [insert specific healthy food] today". By singling out a very specific type of healthy food that you're not particularly the most fond of right now, you're opening yourself up to the possibility of eating other healthy foods. There are SO many options! For example: before I started my weight loss journey, I couldn't stand eating brussel sprouts. I told myself that I wasn't going to eat those on a particular day, but that I would eat spinach or asparagus (which are 2 veggies I love most!) Little by little, I opened myself up to the brussel sprouts, and with the help of chipotle powder or spicy paprika powder, I was not only loving them but craving them! I was so surprised at how drastically my palette for healthy foods changed over the course of 8 months (and counting).
